Chat with Scientists at Alzheimer Day May 9

CHICAGO --- Northwestern Medicine’s Alzheimer Day May 9 will offer the public a chance to learn about the most current research and chat with the scientists, see a professional play reading about the disease and then discuss new treatments with Northwestern clinicians on a panel.  The event is free but registration is required.

The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, 251 E. Huron St., third floor conference center in the Feinberg Pavilion, Chicago. Alzheimer Day is presented by the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease Center of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. 

The day includes:

11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  “The Current and Future National Landscape of Alzheimer’s Disease”: Keynote speech from Ronald Petersen, M.D., director of the Mayo Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and professor of neurology at the Mayo Clinic

1 – 2:30 p.m. Lunch and scientific poster viewing

2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. “Still Alice”: Readings and discussion presented by Lookingglass Theatre Company.  A new play adapted and directed by Christine Mary Dunford from the New York Times best selling novel Still Alice by Lisa Genova.  Readings will be followed by a panel discussion with Dunford and Northwestern clinicians. The adaptation of the play was inspired by Dunford’s longtime work with The Memory Ensemble, an improvisational theater intervention designed to improve the quality of life for people with early-stage Alzheimer’s and related disorders.
