Farley Professor in Manufacturing and Entrepreneurship in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, is a recipient of the SEM Sia Nemat-Nasser Award. He is recognized for his outstanding experimental contributions with impact to the fields of nanomechanics, nanoelectonics and nanomanufacturing. Espinosa will be honored at the SEM Annual Conference in June.

- David Fairen-Jimenez, a postdoctoral fellow in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named a University Research Fellow for 2012 by the Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of science. He is a member of the research group led by Randall Snurr, a professor of chemical and biological engineering. Fairen-Jimenez, who studies rational design of nanoMOFs for drug delivery and bioimaging, will spend his fellowship at the University of Cambridge. The initial funding for the fellowship is $1 million over five years.

- Sir Fraser Stoddart, Board of Trustees Professor of Chemistry in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University, is a 2012 recipient of the Chicago Scots 2012 Distinguished Citizen Award of the Illinois Saint Andrew Society. Leonardi, associate professor in the departments of communication studies and industrial engineering and management sciences and the Pentair-Nugent Teaching Chair, was awarded the 2011-2012 Clarence Ver Steeg Graduate Faculty Award from The Graduate School at Northwestern. The award recognizes a faculty advisor who is a role model for students in research, ethical conduct, professional responsibility and personal development.

-Samuel I. Stupp, professor of material sciences and engineering, is the 2013 recipient of the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Ronald Breslow Award for Achievement in Biomimetic Chemistry. Stupp will be honored at the ACS national meeting in New Orleans in April 2013.

-Wing Kam Liu, Walter P. Murphy Professor of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the 2012 Gauss-Newton Medal, the highest award given by the International Association for Computational Mechanics. The Gauss-Newton Medal honors individuals who have made outstanding, sustained contributions in the field of computational mechanics.

-Chad Mirkin, George B. Rathmann Professor of Chemistry, visited Singapore in July as an invited guest of the Lee Kuan Yew Distinguished Visitor Programme.
