Redevelopment of Norris University Center’s East Lawn to begin this summer

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University faculty, staff and full-time students have a new child care option in Evanston. Spaces are available now at Bright Horizons, which recently opened the doors to its new child care facility at 1629 Orrington Ave.
The new center, located one block south of campus, offers a wider range of high-quality child care and early education options, particularly options in infant and toddler care, which currently are limited.
Through a priority agreement with Bright Horizons Family Solutions, Northwestern families receive a discount on tuition and registration fees.
“Our objective was to expand significantly the quality child care options for the Northwestern community in Evanston,” said Lori Anne Henderson, director of work/life resources in Human Resources. “We're pleased that our goal has been accomplished.”
Bright Horizons offers full-service child care and education for infants through pre-kindergarten and features small class sizes with teachers trained in early childhood education. The curriculum places a strong emphasis on development of language, math, science and social skills and incorporates the key elements that contribute to a child’s readiness for school and academic success.
The center has capacity for approximately 300 children. Northwestern has reserved a block of spaces, and any remaining spaces will be available to parents who live or work in the Evanston area.
The Bright Horizons facility joins a list of existing care options for Northwestern families in Evanston that includes the McGaw YMCA. In addition to the new center, Bright Horizons operates a child development center at NorthShore University HealthSystem.
