Summer Exchange with Bocconi University Students

Italian students got a taste of American college life this summer. Northwestern University welcomed 30 students from Bocconi University in Milan for an exchange program through Northwestern’s Office of International Program Development and Bocconi’s Campus Abroad program.

Bocconi is the premier institution of business and economics in Italy, and several faculty from Northwestern’s economics department have received degrees from the university.

The Bocconi students spent nearly a month in daily lectures, including an Economics of Globalization course taught by professor Paolo Epifani of Bocconi University, who traveled to the United States with the group. Northwestern professors Mark Witte and Mary Pattillo taught the students in seminars on topics including economics, Chicago history, politics and social life, and President Barack Obama’s presidency.

Excursions to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Obama's national campaign headquarters and city landmarks and museums rounded out the exchange program.

Last year six Northwestern students studied at Bocconi, and 10 Northwestern students will study there this fall.
