Students Push for Sustainable Food

Northwestern Community Development Corps hosts discussion
EVANSTON, Ill. --- The need for sustainable food in the Northwestern, Evanston and Chicago communities was the topic of a recent panel discussion that brought together several organizations on campus.

Northwestern Community Development Corps (NCDC), which engages local students in the community through civic service and social justice awareness, brought together the groups. The discussion included representatives from Schools Actively Gardening in Evanston, Edible Evanston and Green City Market in Chicago.

Many members of the NCDC also are involved with the Real Food Movement, said senior Kathryn Anderson, an NCDC co-chair. Northwestern’s Real Food group has been pushing for more locally grown and unprocessed food in the University’s dining halls.
