Redevelopment of Norris University Center’s East Lawn to begin this summer

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Top-notch vocalists and bands from around the country will provide midday entertainment on Northwestern University’s Evanston campus during Norris University Center’s annual "Lunch on the Lake"outdoor concert series. This year’s guest artists hail from New York, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Illinois.
Free and open to the public, the noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday programs begin June 27 and run through Aug. 8. Weather permitting, the concerts will take place on the lawn directly east of Norris Center, 1999 Campus Drive. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved indoors and held on the ground floor of Norris Center.
Note: Northwestern University will be closed for the (Wednesday) July 4 holiday.
Music lovers have the option of purchasing a barbecued lunch prepared outdoors by executive-level chefs from nuCuisine, the University’s food service, or bringing their own lunch. The "Lunch on the Lake" outdoor menu, which changes weekly, will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, throughout the summer concert series. The $7 full menu will include a choice of an entree, two side portions and a cookie.
Also, nuCusine Fresh Markets will sell fresh fruits and vegetables and more at Norris Center this summer and early fall. The produce, products and selections will vary on each market day, depending on availability. Information related to upcoming fresh markets will be available at www.nucuisine.com.
Presented by Northwestern’s Summer Session and Center for Student Involvement, the 2012 “Lunch on the Lake” concert dates and performers will include:
- June 27 Rock/funk/soul artist MER
- July 11 Pop singer and acoustic guitarist David Campbell
- July 18 American country/pop artist Jackson Rohm
- July 25 Waiting to Run, a Christian pop/rock duo
- Aug. 1 Handsome Salamander, a newly-formed Evanston jazz trio
- Aug. 8 Acoustic pop/rock artist Grant Terry
Previous Norris summer concerts have attracted local North Shore residents and families with young children as well as Northwestern faculty, staff and students.
