Redevelopment of Norris University Center’s East Lawn to begin this summer

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Undergraduate tuition at Northwestern University will increase 4.3 percent to $43,380 for the 2012-2013 academic year from the current year’s $41,592, University officials announced today.
Room and board rates will increase 4.3 percent to $13,329 from $12,780 for an undergraduate student living in a double room and on a 19-meal-per-week board plan. Approximately 4,100 of Northwestern’s 8,400 undergraduate students live in University residence halls.
Total undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board at Northwestern University will increase 4.3 percent to $57,108 in 2012-2013 from the current year’s $54,763.
The funds will help to meet students’ financial aid needs, which continue to increase at a more rapid rate than tuition. The University will provide upwards of $118 million in scholarships and grants to undergraduates in 2012-13, an increase of 11 percent from the current year. Financial aid for undergraduate students has increased by 71 percent from $68 million in 2005-2006. Approximately half of undergraduate students receive financial aid from the University.
The additional funds also will support investments in academic and student programs, salary and benefit increases for Northwestern faculty and staff, fundraising support and improvements and maintenance of the University’s facilities and information technology systems.
Northwestern will continue its policy of “need-blind” admission for U.S. citizens and permanent residents, in which a student’s ability to pay is not considered during the admission process.
The undergraduate student athletic fee will increase to $43 next year from $41 this year. The student activity fee will increase to $156 from $150. The student health fee remains at $200.
Graduate school tuition also will increase by 4.3 percent to $43,380 next year. Tuition for the Feinberg School of Medicine will increase 4.5 percent to $48,339 from $46,257. Tuition for the Kellogg School of Management and the Law School will be determined separately.
