Northwestern Continues to Be Top Peace Corps Producer

Returned Peace Corps volunteers featured at roundtable Feb. 29

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern University ranks 18th among medium-sized colleges and universities for the number of alumni (25) currently serving in the Peace Corps.

For the 12th consecutive year, Northwestern has been among the top 25 Corps-producing schools. Since the Peace Corps was founded in 1961, 907 Northwestern University alumni have served.

A Peace Corps Week Global Service Roundtable Event will take place at noon Wednesday, Feb. 29, in the Office of Fellowships conference room. The event will feature a panel of returned Peace Corps volunteers and be hosted by Peace Corps regional recruiter Jessica Wilt, who served in Niger. 

President John F. Kennedy launched the Peace Corps to spearhead progress in developing countries and promote friendship between the American people and other men, women and children throughout the world. Since its inception, more than 200,000 Americans have provided assistance to communities in 139 countries.
