New Child Care Options Coming

Bright Horizons agreement provides 60 new spaces for faculty, staff and students

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern University faculty, staff and students will have 60 new child care spaces available in Evanston this fall. The University has entered a priority enrollment agreement with Bright Horizons Family Solutions, which plans to open a new child care center close to campus.

The new facility, to be located one block south of campus at 1629 Orrington Ave., will offer parents a wider range of high-quality child care and early education options, particularly options in infant and toddler care, which currently are limited.

“We're pleased the expanded options will enable more faculty, staff and students to take advantage of Northwestern's child care programs” said Lori Anne Henderson, director of work/life resources in Human Resources.

The Bright Horizons partnership is added to established partnerships with child care providers in Evanston, including the McGaw YMCA, which currently provides care for more than 100 Northwestern families.

The Bright Horizons center, scheduled to open in September, will offer full-service child care and education for infants through pre-kindergarten and will feature small class sizes with teachers trained in early childhood education.

"Bright Horizons is a nationally recognized leader in providing top-notch child care solutions for employers, and it has a proven track record in the Evanston community," Henderson said.

Bright Horizons currently operates a child development center at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston.

The Bright Horizons curriculum places a strong emphasis on the development of language, math, science and social skills and incorporates the key elements that contribute to a child’s readiness for school and academic success. The center will have capacity for 308 children. Northwestern has reserved 60 spaces, and the remaining spaces will be available to parents who live or work in the Evanston area.
