National Academy of Medicine president to discuss vaccine distribution Friday
Dr. Victor Dzau will address equitable, global vaccine distribution in Dec. 4 virtual keynote
National Academy of Medicine President Dr. Victor Dzau will discuss the equitable and global distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine during an hourlong virtual keynote address Dec. 4.
Dzau’s address, “Global Solidarity and Equitable Access to Vaccine for the Novel Coronavirus,” will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. (C.T.) Friday, Dec. 4. A brief Q&A will follow his address. Interested reporters must register to attend.
The presentation is part of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine’s annual Global Health Day, hosted by Feinberg’s Institute for Global Health.
Dzau has spoken publicly about the importance of transparency regarding who will first get the vaccine and why. He also has stressed the importance of the National Academy of Medicine to engage with and gain trust from minority communities that have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, so they will feel comfortable getting vaccinated.
Dzau is Duke University’s chancellor emeritus and the James B. Duke Professor of Medicine. He also serves as vice chair of the National Research Council, the operating arm of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM). NASEM works with the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention to help policymakers and communities plan for the equitable allocation of vaccines.
