Northwestern professors available on Iowa caucuses, State of the Union Address

The Iowa caucuses are shaping up to be one of the most competitive ever, followed the next day by the State of the Union Address on Feb. 4. In addition, seven candidates are expected to take the stage at the Democratic debate in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Friday, Feb. 7.

Northwestern University professors from political science and the Kellogg School of Management are available to comment on next week’s events.

Alvin Tillery is an associate professor of political science and director of the Center for the Study of Diversity and Democracy at Northwestern. His research in American politics focuses on American political development, racial and ethnic politics and media and politics. Tillery can discuss:

  • How public opinion on the impeachment trial is shifting;
  • Similarities and contrasts between the Nixon, Clinton, and Trump impeachment trials;
  • How the being away from the campaign trail is likely shaping the electoral chances of Senators Klobuchar, Sanders and Warren;
  • What we can expect from the Iowa caucuses.

He can be reached at alvin.tillery@northwestern.edu(Please note, Professor Tillery is unavailable on Monday, Feb. 3.)

Jaime Dominguez is an assistant professor of instruction in the department of political science in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern. Quote from Professor Dominguez
“Caucus-goers have three key issues in mind: health care, climate change and education. The need for mental health care, how each candidate will address rising health care costs, and what they’ll do to keep rural hospitals open also will be on the minds of voters.”

Phillip Braun, a clinical professor of finance at the Kellogg School of Management, is an expert on the economy, specializing in the study of emerging market economies and financial markets. He can be reached by contacting Molly Lynch at molly@lynchgrouponline.com.
