Northwestern Announces Named Professorships

The Board of Trustees has nominated 26 faculty members to professorships

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The Northwestern University Board of Trustees has appointed 26 faculty members to named professorships. 

The faculty members and their appointments are:

Karl Bilimoria, associate professor of surgery and medical social sciences in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the John Benjamin Murphy Professor of Surgery.

Clare Cavanagh, professor of Slavic languages and literature in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Frances Hooper Chair in the Arts and Humanities.

Joseph Ferrie, professor of economics in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Gerald F. and Marjorie G. Fitzgerald Endowed Junior Professor in Economic History.

David Killoren of the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences has been named the Brady Distinguished Visiting Assistant Professor.

Joseph Leventhal, professor of surgery in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been named the Fowler McCormick Professor. 

Viorica Marian, professor of communication sciences and disorders in the School of Communication, has been named the Ralph and Jean Sundin Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Donald Nally, professor of conducting and ensembles in the Bienen School of Music, has been named the John W. Beattie Chair of Music.

Aviv Nevo, professor of economics in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Robert E. and Emily King Professor in Business Institutions.

Mérida Rúa of the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences has been named the Edith Kreeger Wolf Distinguished Visiting Professor.

Max Schanzenbach, the Seigle Family Professor of Law at Northwestern University School of Law, has been named the Seigle Family Chair of Law.

Shohreh Shahabi, professor of obstetrics gynecology and chief of the division of gynecologic oncology, has been named the John and Ruth Brewer Chair in Gynecology and Cancer Research.

Mallory Thompson, professor of conducting and ensembles in the Bienen School of Music, has been named the John W. Beattie Chair of Music.

Mimi White, professor of radio/television/film in the School of Communication, has been named the Van Zelst Research Chair in Communication.

Eric Zaslow, professor of mathematics in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Board of Lady Managers of the Columbian Exposition Chair.

Rebecca Zorach, professor of art history in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been named the Mary Jane Crowe Chair in Art and Art History.

Eileen Bigio of the Feinberg School of Medicine has been reappointed as the Paul E. Steiner Research Professor in Pathology.

Eszter Hargittai of the School of Communication has been reappointed as the April McClain Delaney and John Delaney Research Professor.

Eric Hungness of the Feinberg School of Medicine has been reappointed as the S. David Stulberg, M.D. Research Professor.

Philip Iannaccone of the Feinberg School of Medicine has been reappointed as the George M. Eisenberg Professor of Pediatrics. 

Richard Miller of the Feinberg School of Medicine has been reappointed as the Alfred Newton Richards Chair in Pharmacology.

Hamid Naficy of the School of Communication has been reappointed as the Hamid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Chair in Communication.

Frank Palella, Jr. of the Feinberg School of Medicine has been reappointed as the Potocsnak Family C.S.C. Research Professor.

Eva Redei of the Feinberg School of Medicine has been reappointed as the David Lawrence Stein Research Professor in Psychiatric Diseases Affecting Children and Adolescents.

Lee Shulman, chief of the division of obstetrics and gynecology-clinical genetics in the Feinberg School of Medicine, has been reappointed as the Anna Lapham Professor.

Ellen Wartella of the School of Communication has been reappointed as the Hamid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani Chair in Communication.

Ximing Yang of the Feinberg School of Medicine has been reappointed as the Marie A. Fleming Research Professor in Pathology.
