Ben Bradlee Biographer Jeff Himmelman to Speak April 25

Journalist and author Jeff Himmelman to discuss a career interviewing public figures

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Journalist and author Jeff Himmelman will share stories and insights gleaned from a career of interviewing complex public figures when he speaks Thursday, April 25, at Northwestern University.

His lecture, “From Ben Bradlee and Watergate to Frank Ocean and Everything in Between,” takes place at 4 p.m. in the McCormick Tribune Center Forum, 1870 Campus Drive, Evanston. Presented by the Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, it is free and open to the public.

Himmelman is author of “Yours in Truth: A Personal Portrait of Ben Bradlee.” The biography of the legendary Washington Post editor draws on newspaper memos, correspondence, personal photographs and private interviews. It unearths a series of surprises -- about Watergate and Bradlee’s personal relationships with Washington Post owner Katharine Graham, President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jackie Kennedy

A contributing writer at The New York Times Magazine, Himmelman recently wrote a cover story for the magazine about singer Frank Ocean that described what the Grammy Award-winning hip-hop and rhythm and blues artist is like out of the spotlight.

Himmelman worked with the team of reporters at the Post that helped the paper secure the 2002 national reporting Pulitzer Prize for its post-9/11 coverage.
