Brightening Futures for Evanston Women and Girls

Northwestern community invited to Feb. 2 Evanston forum on women/girls

EVANSTON, Ill. --- Northwestern students, faculty and staff are invited to discuss and share ideas and perspectives on ways to help shape a bright future for Evanston women and girls at a Feb. 2 YW Community Cafe on the Evanston campus.

Co-hosted by the University’s Women’s Center and the YWCA Evanston/North Shore with the Woman’s Club of Evanston, the admission-free program will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, in Parkes Hall, 1870 Sheridan Road, Room 122. Light refreshments will be served.

The event is one of a series of citywide conversations the YWCA initiated last fall to discuss how Evanston can become a place in which women and girls thrive. Several strategies will be identified at the conclusion of a final YW Community Cafe event later this year.

“We will present data we have gathered from the Feb. 2 and other YW Cafe events on March 8 -- International Women’s Day,” said Renee Redd, director of Northwestern’s Women’s Center. The Women’s Center is helping to gather data in response to a broadly disseminated City of Evanston mandate for ways to improve the city that will be used to formulate action plans and benchmarks that will be presented for implementation in 2014.
